Flats in Luxor is now available in the following languages

Luxor, Egypt, one of the most beautiful and historical holiday places in the world. Tourists have been coming here since ancient times and the sites and wonders are just as interesting for the modern tourist as they were all those years ago. The good thing is you don't have to have spent years studying the history to appreciate it. It is all there, still standing on the banks of the Nile waiting to be explored by you.

Many people who come to this friendly town wish to get a more hands on holiday than the big tour companies can offer. This is where we come in.

Flats
We originally started renting one block of flats on the West Bank and now we are Luxor’s premier source for flats West or East Bank and independent tours. Many people prefer the freedom of a self catering apartment giving them independence, flexibility and a real feel for the country. Or you may prefer a villa, please see our separate website www.Nubian-Eco-Village.com. Others like to stay in a hotel but want more individual tours and a chance to contribute directly to the community. The original Flats in Luxor, built by Jane and Mahmoud, an Anglo/Egyptian couple, are situated on the West Bank, Luxor on the edge of Al Gezera village, the luxury end of the flat rental market with it’s own swimming pool and jacuzzi. Over time with increasing numbers of guests and requests for different locations and sizes we have been added to our portfolio. Some of these properties are directly managed by us, others we will make the booking with the landlord for you. But at all times it will be us, Jane and Mahmoud, you deal with and who will organise every aspect of your stay right from pick up at the airport.

Tours
Tours are now a huge part of our offering with many guests staying outside of the flats utilising our services. As we are part of the local economy you know you are contributing directly. The people we utilise are reliable, knowledgeable locals who have been working in the tourist market for many years. These tours can range from a taxi for a day to guided tours of Luxor. Desert trips, Cairo tours or a simple camel ride. Our most popular tour is the Quiet Tour where we endeavour to show you 3 sites where you will be the only tourist. For those of you interested in a Nile Cruise, what about trying a traditional sailing boat. KV38 and KV39 from Richard Sellicks
Richard keeps digging up these old photos and sending them to me. I am really grateful because you are not allowed to take them any more even if you could get there, which is also not allowed now.

TT1 reopens and TT290 closes at Deir el Medina
Such a shame the lovely tomb I reported on in the summer has closed as Senedjem has reopened, a reminder http://luxor-news.blogspot.com/2010/08/new-tomb-opens-at-deir-el-medina.html

Merenptah Museum and Store rooms closed
Today my guests and guide were not allowed in the storerooms or the museum at the temple of Merenptah. The guide was told it was because there had been a theft from the museum. A stele had been taken, I am so saddened by this, it was a lovely little museum. Here is a reminder http://luxor-news.blogspot.com/2008/10/museums-in-luxor.html

A controversial article from Paula Veiga

http://www.archnews.co.uk - Cancer was rare but it DID occur in ancient Egypt, Manchester Uni Egyptologist refutes Nature article: "In direct contradiction to the recent Manchester University article in Nature stating cancer is 'man made' Paula Veiga strongly argues the case for the existence of cancer in Ancient Egyptians. Citing both her own research during her time at Manchester and Professor Zimmerman, she questions Prof Davids conclusions. 'It seems Dr. Zimmerman?s work from 1995, my own research in 2007-08 and reputed scientists? work (Strouhal, Zink, Nerlich, Capasso and others) were not enough to convince Prof. Rosalie David. '

Facebook | Party 07 November 2010

We had a couple come from Somewhere Different to stay at the villas and the company had asked if we could make sure they saw local entertainment. So Flats in Luxor had a party at Goubli in our roof top restaurant. Great night. You can see all the photos here. Facebook | Party 07 November 2010: "- Sent using Google Toolbar"

EasyJet to Flats in Luxor
The first EasyJet flight landed in Luxor 3rd Nov and I had three sets of guests on it. It is a natural combination a self catering apartment or villa from the Flats in Luxor Group and a cheap flight from EasyJet. So how did my guests find it using EasyJet for their cheap holiday in Egypt to see the ancient culture? How did it compare to a deal using a charter flight and hotel. Well we came out on top!!

First the price they paid for their flight depending on how far in advance they booked the flight. The cheapest was £87 return and the most expensive was £250 return. So to get the cheapest deal on a flight to Luxor, Egypt, book early.
Every one of them said they would use EasyJet to fly to Luxor again and would recommend it to their friends. Most of them took their own food but those that did have the food were quite satisfied.

So the cost of one week if you book in advance and were a family of 5 sharing one of Flats in Luxor three bedroom apartments with private swimming pool. Would be £164 per person, full board would be £234, that?s right a holiday in Luxor Egypt for a family of 5 for £820. EasyJet/Flats in Luxor; what a combination.
